about

Ypsmael feedback electronics, amplified acoustic objects, voice, effects and livesampling
Eloine invented instruments, found objects, electronics, field recordings

Ypsmael and Eloine are from the Black Forest in Germany and California in the US of A respectively; each active solo and in other collaborations. This is their third release as a duo, following 'Lost Teeth' [Chocolate Monk, 2022] and 'Split' (with Coims) [Eh? / Public Eyesore, 2023].
'Pockets' was recorded live in the autumn of 2023 during their first tour around England and into Scotland. Suitcases containing invented instruments, pedals and half-working electroacoustic junk were lugged up and down the UK to flavour five different offerings to audiences on five consecutive nights: Nottingham, London, Bristol, Brighton and Glasgow. These dates were preceded by solo sets by Eloine in Cork and Limerick, and Ypsmael in Glasgow, getting ready for their imminent duo adventures.
'Bloodcreamer' was the first night of the tour, recorded at The Chameleon in Nottingham performing alongside sets by Sophie Cooper and Notintone (Rebecca Lee and Marie Thompson).
'Anguree' was the second night, recorded at Iklectik in London, sharing the bill with a trio of Phil Durrant, Tim Hodgkinson and Mark Wastell, as well as touring artist Timothy Tate.
Thanks to everyone who supported the tour and scatterArchive for releasing these recordings. [YPSMAEL]

Ypsmael and I met in San Francisco during his US tour in the spring of 2018. He performed in a show as part of a series I curate at Canessa Gallery in Jackson Square and stayed at my recording studio in SOMA during his time in the city. The following year, I travelled to Germany for the Global Forest residency program in Sankt Georgen in the Black Forest and had the opportunity to collaborate with Ypsmael. We had a recording session and performed together at a show at the residency space, where we began discussing plans for a collaborative album. During the first years of the pandemic, we recorded a significant amount of material that eventually became our first album, "Lost Teeth", released on Chocolate Monk. In 2022, we started discussing plans for an Ireland/UK tour and actively began pushing forward with it at the beginning of 2023. The two recordings that make up "Pockets" came from that tour.
