about

Mike Cooper iPad

Sengai Gibon (1750–1837) was a Zen monk and artist.
I had just visited exhibitions in Barcelona by Antonio Tàpies and Joan Miró and read how they both were inspired by Sengai. i like all three artists.

All recorded in one evening during December 2023; one take direct improvisations - no overdubs and no editing. I decided to make some 2.30 minute pieces, some were a bit longer as it turned out, using electronics on my iPad. No guitar.

Airlines have been less than cooperative recently with instruments onboard. Checking them in they either lose them or break them and so I have had to change my methodology of producing music. I invented a folding lap steel that fits in my carry-on case and incorporated small electronics into my set.

My equipment is getting smaller and more portable by the day.
Less can be more.
