about

Jean-Michel Van Schouwburg voice
Yoko Miura piano
Lawrence Casserley signal processing instrument

Yoko first met Lawrence at a Fête QuaQua event organised by John Russell and they arranged to form a duo the following year.
Yoko also wanted to play with Jean-Michel so had the idea to invite both to form a trio for John Russell's Mopomoso at The Vortex in London [Sunday 19 October 2014]. youtu.be/qRUiEh_j_hs
This Oxford concert, a year later, was their second performance as a trio.

"I remember that we were happy with our first concert and Phil Minton came to shake hands as he loved the trio and my vocal part. I want to say that singing with such complex machinery transforming time and shape like Lawrence and with a pianist like Yoko who is working in polytonal cycles… is not a thing that comes out easily"

"Each player has a unique musical personality that is clearly stated, but is also submerged within the collaboration. Its unity and diversity are the essence of our interaction. The music is in constant flux, both individually and collectively, absorbing each others’ power and sensitivity - creating new flows on many levels."
[Jean-Michel Van Schouwburg]

I think it’s like we’re traveling on parallel paths to a destination.

We communicate with each other by feeling and instinct.

Personally, I take in sounds not as musical notes or chords, just as energy or vibration.

I put several tones into our musical field and watch the chemical reaction.

It’s a kind of adventure.

I always try to open a window so that we can reach a new world.

[Yoko Miura]
