...Kagel... first formed as a duo in 1993 with myself on tabletop guitar and rewired electronics with James Wood on amplified table, objects and electronics.
We started improvising after I met James through his radio show (Outer Limits) on KCMU.
At first we were an extremely loud industrial duo, then we wanted to combine other elements that interested us that we hadn’t heard before.
Our first show was in 1994 at The Seattle Improvised Music Festival with Jeffrey Taylor of Climax Golden Twins on tape recorder.
In 1995 we decided to add two double bassists to the group, Mark Collins and Matthew Sperry: we were listening to Bill Dixon and thought that combination had a lot of potential.
We rehearsed on Vashon Island overlooking Colvos Passage.
We had a few performances in Seattle during this time.
The group lasted from 1993-2003.
