Kazu and I have a long history that started in Vienna in 1997 when we recorded the 'comforts of madness' cd “autism”, with Helge Hinteregger... time passed and we next met at the Baltimore U.S.A. High Zero festival in 2006. Kazu invited me to tour in Japan with him in December that year, and play at his Osaka Innocent Music festival.
We played a concert during that tour at the Kid Ailack Art Hall, Tokyo (a black box room with a very clear feeling and acoustic) which Kazu recorded and which is now presented here.
Kazu and I have since had the opportunity to play in many contexts both in duos and group situations in Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo in Japan, in France, Germany and Austria, and in the U.K.
I am very fortunate to be able to play with a guitarist who has such an openness and freedom to his playing.
Collaborations like ours reflect a continuity of change, but shows we can perhaps live with improvised music in a constant and integrated way, recognising its push and pull in direct tandem with our lives.
