May HD
'BrokenBR' is the title of the most recent work of the sound artist, independent curator and PhD student in Visual Arts at the Federal University of Bahia, Andrea May.
Composed of 5 parts of variable duration, this project reflects on the political situation of her home country. Using prepared, destroyed and processed vinyl records of national anthems, in superimpositions that resemble the feelings of loss, disorder and disillusionment in the social ruins of BR (Brazil).
Anthems are, for May HD, based on symbols of dystopia with meaningless lyrics. Heroic harmonies are mixed with noisy truths and connect experimentalism with the power of sensitive females to visceral sound creation.
