Paola Ribeiro

I stand before you.
Meanwhile my voice is being recorded.
This recording will play again and again.
For each repetition a new recording.
For each recording another layer of voice.
I call that Fagia.
Fagia means to feed/nourish.
Here I feed myself until the word is gone.

The fragment above is the initial text of the performance Fagia.
The proposal is to investigate, mainly, the power of the body / voice in relation to the performance space through technology. As a dynamic interaction the body / voice feeds the recording, the recording feeds the space and the space feeds the improvisation.
A previously recorded text is initially played and recorded again. In each re-recording, an additional layer of voice is added. What was initially a text gradually decomposes into spatial resonance. And the voice added in each new recording is an improvisation. It’s a composition in real time, created in relation to the sound, generated by the sound decomposition caused by the re-recording. The recordings are 20 seconds long, with an average of 15 re-recordings. Fagia’s presentation is always unique due to each improvisation, space, and time.
As part of the performance composition, a projection is presented simultaneously during the action. The projected video was previously recorded at the location where the performance first takes place. It is basically the development of actions in the proposed space. The projection creates a spatial and corporeal double that thickens the immersion proposed by the sound.
[Paola Ribeiro]

Paola Ribeiro is an artist and researcher, currently investigating the idea of a body that expands through voice. A body that is very attentive and interested in the relationships that take place through perception. Tact. Hearing. Palate. Eyesight. Smell. Voice. The action of this body is articulated through the intertwining of languages among performance, music and video
She has performed and participated in a series of group exhibitions and festivals. Including “VERBO 16 edition” at Galeria Vermelho, São Paulo/BR (2022), “Citoplasmic Opera” at MON – Museu Oscar Niemeyer, Curitiba/BR (2022)," Festival New Frequencies for the 34th Bienal de São Paulo" (2021), SESC JAZZ- Radio Diaspora Cachaça Ensemble" (2021), “Say No” at Atelê 397 (2021), “Dystopie: Sound art festival” in Berlin (2020), “Can you see me? Can you hear me?” at Casa Niemeyer (2020/2021), “New Frequencies – Year X“ (2020)
