Since their first appearance together at the Labor Sonor open air festival in 2021 (with dancer Takako Suzuki), the three musicians have evolved into the trio TOGGLE.
Their hybrid electro-acoustic spectrum ranges from Tuerlinckx's inside piano, rich with objects and prepared string sounds, via Ermke's elaborate selections of samples and field recordings, to the close-miked ride cymbal and live electronics of Beins.
All play together in other combinations: Tuerlinckx and Ermke as 'Der Komponist ist eingeschlafen', Beins and Tuerlinckx in trio with Marta Zapparoli and also occasionally as a duo, and last, but not least, Ermke and Beins in the long-established groups Tree (with Chris Abrahams) and Cox Orange (with Jim Denley and Ignaz Schick).
With TOGGLE, the three create unpredictable sound worlds full of surprising twists and dark beauty.

Anaïs Tuerlinckx is a pianist, composer and sound artist from Brussels.
She moved to Berlin in 2008, interested in the local improvised music scene. Tending to a rather physical and expending way of playing, her performances are characterized by a decidedly harsh and noisy but at the same time elegiac, breezy and spacious sound.

Austrian Andrea Ermke lives and works as a musician in Berlin. Self-taught, she has developed a very personal and uncompromising style of collage working with mini-discs, field recording, sampling & hands-on sounds since 1995.
Since the 1990s she has been part of the core of what is called Echtzeitmusik in Berlin.

Burkhard Beins, born 1964 in Lower Saxony, lives in Berlin since 1995. As a composer/performer working in the fields of experimental music and sound art he is known for his definitive use of percussion in combination with selected sound objects. Furthermore, he works with live-electronics/analog synthesizers, plays bass guitar, and has conceived several sound installations.
