"If you develop an ear for sounds that are musical it is like developing an ego. You begin to refuse sounds that are not musical and that way cut yourself off from a good deal of experience” John Cage
Following their scatterArchive release "Remembered Present", this new set from Thomas Rohrer and Jacek Chmiel was recorded in Thomas Rohrer`s living room during their UNCOOL residency in Poschiavo, Switzerland.
They made field recordings around the town and in the valley which were mixed with their musical instruments to create an immersive sonic picture of the environment.
Jacek Chmiel (PL) is a sound artist, field recordist, sound engineer, photographer, and improviser. His deepest interest in sound is to look for new ways to embed all the possibilities of an ever-changing electro-acoustic setup in order to reinvent his way of thinking at each moment. He aims to be internally connected to the time, space and layers created by all the sounds he produces.
Thomas Rohrer (CH/BR) lives between Sao Paulo, Brazil and Poschiavo Switzerland. His work with rabeca (Brazilian fiddle) and soprano saxophone has a primary focus on free improvisation but he can also be found in dialogue with traditional Brazilian music. With the late rabeca master Nelson da Rabeca, Thomas had a project which paired traditional music from Brazil's northeast with free improvisation. His work also interacts with cinema, theatre, dance, performance and installation.
